Antelope Mutation
Genotype: nAtp or AtpAtp
Approved Tail-types: Full or Fringe

As the name suggests, this mutation causes the horse to take on characteristics of an antelope. It causes a white underbelly and partially white chest. The tail is also white, although near the base a small portion can be the base color. Darkening around the eye is commonly seen. The face, neck, and chest markings mimic those of various species of antelope; they can appear as a mix of different breeds or a minimal version of one. This mutation prevents heavy dusting.

Bleached Base Mutation
Genotype: nBl or BlBl
Approved Tail-types: All tails

The bleached base mutation causes horses to loose pigmentation in some of their skin, heavily lightening the coat. Horses carrying this gene will have a very pale version of their original coat color. Dark points will usually retain most of their color, as does the mane and tail. Some horse carrying the gene appear to turn grey, with their coat appearing entirely white and their markings a grey.

Firework Mutation
Genotype: nFwk or FwkFwk
Approved Tail-types: All tails

An explosively colorful mutation, the firework mutation expresses itself in a few ways. The most noticeable trait are the colorful streaks across the body. These streaks form a circular formation similar to that of a firework exploding; usually only one such patch is seen on a horse, and it can be on the body itself or as colored bands in the tail. Patches of dark, slightly grey hairs appear across the coat (usually on joints or along the neck). Within these patches are small specks of color, giving the impression of the after shower from fireworks. The fur around the eye lightens and colorful streaks/flecks appear around it. This changes the horse eye color to an unnatural hue. The eye markings can also appear as minimal as a few flecks of color near the eye.

Jellyfish Mutation
Genotype: nJly or JlyJly
Approved Tail-types: Full or Fringe

The jellyfish mutation is another mutation that mimics a type of animal coat. A dapple-like affect appears on the back, giving the appearance of small circles. In some cases the dapples appear as up to four large crescent-shaped spots. Streaks of color appear in the mane and tail, similar to that of a jellyfish in coloration. This can range from warm to cool colors. In some cases, luminescent spots have been known to appear. These spots can be small or large, but show up in small group along the face, neck, chest, or rump. These spots are light colors and lighten the fur around them to appear to almost glow. Eye colors range from blues to purples to reds, depending on the colors.

Quagga Mutation
Genotype: nQgg or QggQgg
Approved Tail-types: Full or Fringe

A horse displaying the quagga mutation takes on attributes of a quagga. The legs, belly, and neck are heavily dusted with white, or in some rare cases cream. Legs are mandatory fully covered, while the belly and neck can have a small concentration. Striping occurs along the face and moved down the neck, fading as it goes. It rarely reaches the rump. The striping can cause the mane and tail to wind up two or three toned.

Rain Drop Paint Mutation
Genotype: nRp or RpRp
Approved Tail-types: All tails

As with other paint patterns, rain drop appears white. It shows itself as elongated white spots which appear to look like rain. These markings can appear horizontally or vertically. Black dusting is known to appear due to this mutation

Reverse Snowflake Splash Mutation
Genotype: nRs or RsRs
Approved Tail-types: All tails

The reverse snowflake splash is a spin on the classic splash; this version of splash spreads from the topline and works its way down towards the legs. Dusted edges are required, but the mutation itself can be both minimally or extremely. It is rare to find a fully expressed reverse splash, though. White leg markings, such as cornets or stockings, don't appear on horses with this mutation.

Speckled Back Mutation
Genotype: nSp or SpSp
Approved Tail-types: All tails

Speckled back is an odd mutation in it doesn't appear to do much at first glance. The mutation usually surfaces in horses carrying the cream gene and displays itself as small flecks of white along the topline. In darker coated horses it also lightens the fur along the topline. The mutation also turns white dusting to another color, either a darker version of the base coat or black. Mixes of both white and dark dusting have been known to occur. Speckled back has a 50/50 chance of passing on to offspring from an nSp.

Spectrum Brindle Mutation
Genotype: nSBr or SBrSBr
Approved Tail-types: Full or Fringe

This variation of brindle allows for unnatural colors to show up in brindle. The brindle appears from the back down and never shows up on legs or the stomach line. The stripes can be thick, similar to that of a tiger, or very thin. The markings can be a mix of unnatural colors and a natural shade, or fully unnatural. Any color is allowed, although extremely bright colors tend to not appear.

Weasel Mutation
Genotype: nWe or WeWe
Approved Tail-types: Full or Fringe

Similar to the antelope mutation, this mutation causes the white markings of the animal to appear over the base coat. This usually means the white covers the belly and/or neck and causes a type of face mask. All of this is dependent on the breed the coat is based off of. It doesn't affect dusting at all and doesn't change the mane or tail color.

White Tiger Mutation
Genotype: nWtg or WtgWtg
Approved Tail-types: Lion or Fringe

The white tiger mutation covers the entire base coat of a horse with white. Portions of the coat are unaffected and show the base color beneath. This gives it the illusion of having tiger-like markings. This mutation doesn't affect the mane or tail.

Mutation FAQ

  1. Q: I have a Speckled Back and it doesn't match the requirements for the mutation. What gives? Answer: Speckle back was not originally a mutation (it wasn't even IN the genos). Then Speckled back became a mutation, but all it did was give white spots along the topline. During the 2014 Spring Revamp it was decided the mutation would also cause some other things in darker horse.
  2. Q: My nSp horse through an nSp foal. How? Answer: The Speckled back mutation can be passed on regardless of if the horse is nSp or SpSp. There is a 50% for an nSp to throw an nSp foal and a 100% chance from an SpSp one.
  3. Q: Some of the mutation imports don't match the description you gave! Answer: Yes indeed. Same with the Speckled Back problem, a few mutations were changed up during the 2014 Revamp. The older designs stayed the same, but all new designs must follow the above guidelines.
